Gary Safford

We  are sad to say that a Long time member and contributor to The Western New York Gas & Steam Engine Association has succumb to a long term illness. Gary Safford was a member of the crew that helped recover the Saw Mill and Erie Ball engine and  erect the saw mill and steam building. Known best for his straw hat and mild manner He will be missed by all those that knew him.


ARCADE — Gary W. Safford, formerly of Arcade, died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw, at the age of 79.

He was born March 18, 1938 in Buffalo, a son of the late Garrison and Genevieve (Fisher) Safford.

He was a member of the New St. Mary’s Church in Arcade. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and working with antique farm equipment and water rams. He also volunteered in the antique section at the Wyoming County Fair.

He was a parts man for 28 years for Zimmer Auto Parts in Arcade.

He is survived by several cousins.

He is preceded in death his parents, and his brother, Wayne Safford.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 1 at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2 at The New St. Mary’s Church, Main St., Arcade. Interment will be in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Arcade.
